You
are
allowed
to
sing.
You can sing.
Even if you think you can’t.
Even if you think you shouldn’t.
You are allowed to sing.
And there’s actual useful stuff to learn if you want to.
Hi, I’m Rose.
I am a singer and a choir leader who is full of bright-eyed enthusiasm, 20+ years experience teaching singing and choirs, and a passion for helping humans sing their hearts out.
I believe that singing together with others is one of the most meaningful, cathartic and joyful things that there is. I want to be part of making that happen as much as possible.
I know that if you can speak, you can sing.
I know that so many folks are carrying singing baggage, that needlessly holds them back from delighting in the goodness of shared singing and music-making.
I know that creating spaces and opportunities for folks to sing and learn and share is a worthwhile and beautiful thing to spend my life doing, and I count myself very lucky that I can be useful in this way.
In Southern Tas and want to join a choir?
I run mixed voice evening acapella choirs in Cygnet and Franklin, a homeschool kids choir in Ranalgh and a mums bring your kids choir in Cygnet. You are welcome and you don’t have to think you can sing to join- just come along!
Want to learn to sing?
I’ve got a few things of usefulness for you. I have a few spots open for private online singing lessons, a comprehensive online course to help you understand and explore your voice, and some free offerings too.
The Unscary Singing Manifesto
1. You are allowed to sing.
You are allowed to sing whether you think you are any good or not. You are allowed to sing whether you actually are any good or not. You are allowed to sing for your own reasons and purpose, and these do not have to have anything to do with performance or perfection, unless you want them to.
2. Singing is valuable as a process, rather than exclusively as a product.
Singing is a powerful and magical part of being a human. It connects us to ourselves, each other, as well as to something transcendent. Perfecting something then presenting it as a performance is not the only valid way to make music or to sing. You can do it for the sheer joy of it.
3. Technique is useful in that it allows you to express what you want to express.
Technique, if learnt purely for it’s own sake, is very dull. Technique if learnt as a way to have creative control, catharsis and choice is very empowering.
4. Singing is learnable
It’s not something you just have or you don’t. There is actual stuff to learn, which makes a big difference, and anyone can learn it.
5. Singing safety matters
Your felt sense of safety has a very direct impact on how your singing sounds and feels. By understanding how this works, you can be kind to yourself while you gradually become less scared, as well as learning tools to help you sing with more freedom and less fear.
