You
are
allowed
to
sing!
You can sing.
Even if you think you can’t.
Even if you think you shouldn’t.
You are allowed to sing.
You are allowed to have a fabulous time doing so.
And there’s actual useful stuff to learn if you want to.

Hi, I’m Rose.
I am a singer and a choir leader who is full of bright-eyed enthusiasm, 20+ years experience teaching singing and choirs, and a passion for helping humans sing their hearts out.
I believe that singing together with others is one of the most meaningful, cathartic and joyful things that there is. I want to be part of making that happen as much as possible.
I know that if you can speak, you can sing.
I know that so many folks are carrying singing baggage, that needlessly holds them back from delighting in the goodness of shared singing and music-making.
I know that creating spaces and opportunities for folks to sing and learn and share is a worthwhile and beautiful thing to spend my life doing, and I count myself very lucky that I can be useful in this way.
Here in this internet-land, you’ll find songs and arrangements, technique tips and exercises, and info about my choirs.
Plus many other singing goodnesses that await your exploration.

“Rose is in love with music, but loves people even more. This, coupled with her talent, knowledge and fun persona, makes her a most out of the ordinary singing teacher.”

The Unscary Singing Manifesto
The words that guide what I do, and how I feel about singing.
1. You are allowed to sing.
You are allowed to sing whether you think you are any good or not. You are allowed to sing whether you actually are any good or not. You are allowed to sing for your own reasons and purpose, and these do not have to have anything to do with performance or perfection, unless you want them to.
2. Singing is valuable as a process, rather than exclusively as a product.
Singing is a powerful and magical part of being a human. It connects us to ourselves, each other, as well as to something transcendent. Perfecting something then presenting it as a performance is not the only valid way to make music or to sing. You can do it for the sheer joy of it.
3. Technique is useful in that it allows you to express what you want to express.
Technique, if learnt purely for it’s own sake, is very dull. Technique if learnt as a way to have creative control, catharsis and choice is very empowering.
4. Singing is learnable
It’s not something you just have or you don’t. There is actual stuff to learn, which makes a big difference, and anyone can learn it.
5. Singing safety matters
Your felt sense of safety has a very direct impact on how your singing sounds and feels. By understanding how this works, you can be kind to yourself while you gradually become less scared, as well as learning tools to help you sing with more freedom and less fear.
As a teacher, I’m fascinated by her sometimes outrageous teaching methods- they work. She knows her craft but more importantly she knows how to impart it.”

Rose is fantastic, multi-talented and inspirational in every way!! She makes you feel like you have a fantastic voice and lots of potential (even when you think you don’t) and then she puts heaps of energy into teaching you tips and techniques that will actually help make some of that come true!! She never fails to be positive yet constructive in her feedback.”

Rose has a fabulous outgoing, bubbly and non-threatening nature. Somehow I find myself “just having a go” and I totally surprise myself when I manage to sing something I hadn’t imagined I was ever going to be able to do.
How does that happen? Rose does this kind of kind of “magical“ thing.
She teaches singing techniques by somehow describing and demonstrating and sharing her emotion with us, using her deeply instinctive actions and words. It is animated and heartfelt and disarming and so I find I kind of somehow instinctively “get it” by experience.
It’s hard to put into words…….. it’s a step by step thing………… you just have to try it!”
