About Rose and Unscary Singing
I am a singer, singing teacher, choir leader, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who delights in crafting, and partaking in, heart-felt, welcoming and magical musical spaces.
I believe singing is a magical and powerful way of connecting with ourselves and others, and that wildly enthusiastic singalongs are the best fun humans can have.
I want to make singing as unscary as possible for as many people as possible, because the world is better with more people sharing forms of creative connection and expression, and this is the one I can help with.
Rose holds a Bachelor of Music with a major in classical voice, but has always enthusiastically sung in as many different styles as she can discover. To this day, she refuses to be stylistically monogamous and continues to sing #allthesongs and play as many instruments as she can get her hands on. She teaches singing, leads choirs and workshops, and sings her own songs.
Rose has names for all her instruments- her most frequent music-making co-conspirators being Mimi the Looper and Delilah the keyboard, with some guest appearances from various tin whistles.
As a sharer and singer of songs, Rose loves creating moments of connection, peace, power and pin-drop-moments. Rose’s style is easeful, varied and lilting-smooth, traveling from haunting, to beautiful, back via funny and on through to powerful, before continuing on to find more places still to go.
Rose’s musical passion and wide-eyed enthusiasm is underpinned and fed by the belief that music is a profoundly powerful, transcendant and important way of connecting us to ourselves and others.
It’s also just really really fun.
As a passionate singing teacher with twenty years experience teaching singing to all ages and skill levels, Rose can wax lyrical for hours about all the reasons why everyone is allowed to sing, whether they’re any good or not, about why it’s learnable, and about how our culture often robs us of the delight of singing-making under the weight of its various baggages around all things creative.
Rose facilitates choirs and group singing workshops, and has run many and varied choirs- nine a week at the peak of it- and considers it one of the most soul-affirming, meaning-making, people-connecting and joy-inducing things a human can do. Rose runs four local choirs in Southern Tasmania, as well as online DIY Choirs for groups of singers around the country.
Choirs are awesome and you should sing in one.
Rose holds a Bachelor of Music and has undertaken plentiful further professional development goodnesses, such as multiple Estill courses, seminars and workshops from the Australian National Association of Singing Teachers (ANATS) and the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA) , songwriting and arrangement workshops and more.
She has taught singing to hundreds of students over her last 20 years of teaching, and brought singing joy many folks through her numerous local choirs and workshops.
In other news, Rose homeschools two kidlets, reads fantasy, talks to chickens and plants and has more enthusiasm than skill for cooking.
