Singing Lessons
If you’ve always wanted to do the brave and beautiful thing of learning to sing, then I’d love to share skills, strategies and stories with you to fill your days with song.
Life is better with singing in it- you are allowed to sing, and it is learnable!
I have been teaching singing for over 20 years, online and in person to all ages and levels, and delight in helping people discover that they can do this singing thing.

I teach singing from my studio in Southern Tasmania to students of all ages and experience levels. I also teach online lessons. Online Singing Lessons work beautifully for motivated students, and are an effective, convenient and accessible way to learn singing. I provide all my online students with extensive resources, learning and practice tracks, which we use both for practice and during our lesson.
I believe there is enough wonderful music in the world that you never need sing a song that you don’t love. I teach dynamic, engaging, skill-based and empowering singing lessons designed to help you understand your own voice.
I occasionally have spaces become available for online or in person lessons. Best to get in touch with me and join my waiting list if you would like to explore singing lessons with me.
By exploring the rest of this site, especially The Unscary Singing Manifesto on the homepage, you’ll see my singing beliefs that underpin all my teaching.

Some Students and Their Stories

Eve
Eve tells some of her story in her own words…
“After several lessons with Rose, we got to the crux of the matter…this business about not thinking I am a singer. Like those stiff, overweight, old, too busy, too tired people, I had placed myself outside of the club. When I aired what felt was a secret I’d kept all my life, she came back with the most beautiful declaration, which explained how I’d taken an unskillful turn at some point in my life. Was it in 3rd grade music class? My teacher didn’t say I wasn’t allowed to sing, but she did say I was to mouth the words.
In effect, Rose’s pep talk reminded me that I am allowed to sing, that I am allowed to learn to sing. She said:
Whether you are any good or not, whether you get better, whether you take it seriously or not, it’s not a product to be commodified or to perfect, and then to present, and for people to consume and critique. It’s not an exclusive thing. It’s something that you do to connect and express. It’s cathartic. It’s beautiful. It’s meaningful.
I’m coming at singing differently now. It’s a lovely thing for me. It’s a means of self-expression. I don’t even have to have reasons for doing it.”

Liv
Words from Liv’s Mum…
“Rose is the most unscary singing teacher you’ll ever have the pleasure of working with.
My daughter Liv has been enjoying singing lessons with Rose for many months now and has blossomed into singing, growing her confidence day by day.
Rose has a playful, relaxed style of teaching that really keeps the enjoyment and commitment levels high.
With Rose’s excellent tutoring, Liv’s repertoire has bloomed along with her love of singing and music.”

Moira
In Moira’s words…
“Rose is a brilliant teacher- passionate imaginative, knowledgeable, constructively critical and super encouraging.
I was surprised as I thought I was a Sop(rano) and discovered through Rose’s lessons that I had another deeper voice which is a new area of exploration.
I’ve played the harp but never had the nerve to sing with it and Rose is helping me find ways to use the harp to accompany my voice which is both a challenging but fresh area of learning.
At almost 68 I’m delighted to reaffirm that with the right teacher such as Rose- it’s never too late to discover exciting new adventures in learning about singing and musical expression. Not to forget the gift of self confidence which is a bonus.”

Alana
In Alana’s words…
I have loved my singing lessons.
Rose’s incredible wealth of musical knowledge, understanding and talent is fused into every lesson as she intuitively and intelligently adjusts the direction and content exactly and perfectly as required in each session.
Rose provides rich, tailored resources for learning and practice for use in and outside of lessons which I also found very valuable.
The online format Rose has created was incredibly easy to access, navigate and use. Also, as a Mum with little ones I have loved the flexibility that is afforded by attending lessons online.
It has been a beautiful, enlightening, interesting and nurtured experience to discover my voice and learn to sing with Rose and I would recommend the opportunity to learn with Rose to anyone.

Rose is born to teach music – particularly singing, as her level of patience coupled with her ability to explain, and vocally demonstrate singing techniques across a wide vocal range is quite extraordinary. I was instantly ‘hooked’ by Rose’s wonderful laidback style of teaching, and her beautiful and gentle spirit.
Caroline Stewart
Rose is in love with music but loves people even more. This, coupled with her talent, knowledge and fun persona, makes her a most out of the ordinary singing teacher.”
Helen Pogonowski
Rose’s love and mastery of singing are conveyed in such an easy and relaxed way, that even in my first lesson, I felt quickly at ease, regardless if I could find the notes. I always looked forward to this very special time with Rose. Soon my voice also joined the party in her gentle but very clear way. Gift yourself lessons with Rose, and even your family will be happy!
Elma Roering
Rose is an exceptional teacher who understands how we need to think, act and move in order for our voice to be released. As a singer who has had singing lessons with many teachers, Rose brings warmth, fun as well as a deep knowledge of how our voice works, which in turn brings out the best from the individual.
I highly recommend Rose to anyone who genuinely wants to learn and enjoy singing.
Melissa Wills
As a teacher, I’m fascinated by her sometimes outrageous teaching methods- they work. She knows her craft but more importantly she knows how to impart it.
Betty Starr, Song Circle choir Member
Rose is a very knowledgeable singing teacher. The most amazing thing is her wonderfully cheerful way of teaching, making it all so much fun to be learning new songs and how to sing. She is fun and self deprecating and would put any nervous student at ease.
Jan Gaudron
Rose is fantastic, multi-talented and inspirational in every way!! She makes you feel like you have a fantastic voice and lots of potential (even when you think you don’t) and then she puts heaps of energy into teaching you tips and techniques that will actually help make some of that come true!! She never fails to be positive yet constructive in her feedback.
Tashe Long
Rose has a unique way of teaching, everything is fun and her ability to explain a concept in many different ways makes learning and making mistakes something to be enjoyed!! I have always had difficulty with going outside my comfort zone but Rose is so ready to share that I felt totally at ease when she asked me to try singing upside down! My voice actually improved! Any one who has lessons with her or just sings with her cannot help but be inspired.
Mary Walker
If inside you there is a singer longing to bust out a tune round a campfire, a soul wanting to dance around and sing to the birds, a human who wants to rock up or feel more comfy at a community choir, a child of yours you’d love to learn to sing or if you’ve just always wanted to do the beautiful and brave thing of learning to sing, then get in touch and get singing.
You are allowed to sing, and you can learn to sing.
